I saw this Christmas card (on the right) on Pinterest, and fell in love with the colors.  Thanks Cindy for your inspiration!

Tulips - MDSM83

The MDS Monday has another sketch challenge -- along with a Technique Challenge this week (MDSM83).  This one incorporates "texting on a path" using the freeform tool.  You may view the challenge, all the pages created with the challenge AND videos on how to create a text on a path here:

I had a bit of trouble with my text on the corners -- the text overlapped where it had the 90 degree turn -- but I was able to place some spaces in to get the words to lay as I wanted them to. =)

I used the Watercolor Winter DSP behind the photos, but felt that the original color was just a bit too dark for what I wanted.  So, placing the DSP inside a photo box, I was able to re-color it a different shade of blue -- thus making it softer than the original color. Yay!

This page was from our trip to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in April 2014.  Since moving here (12 years ago), we had always wanted to see the many tulip fields.  It was so amazing to see all the many different varieties and the colors. I {heart} tulips!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Supplies Used:
Background paper - Whisper White
Photo Box - Square (Watercolor Winter DSP #9 - recolored Brocade Blue)
Stamp Brush Set - Glimmer Kit (stripes overlay - Baja Breeze)
Fonts - CK Cutie and KG Eyes Wide Open (Baja Breeze)

Christmas 2013

Wow! I have to say that I am so very pleased to be completing last years Christmas photos BEFORE this Christmas! Such a wonderful feeling!  When my family (my side) gets together, we always have a great time.....and there are so many photos.... it's hard to just choose a few.  Especially since we do so much -- Family photo, opening presents and games!

I wanted to highlight our family photo (and the photo with almost all our eyes closed too!). As you can tell we are a funny bunch! lol! I decided to use a template/layout I saw on the Sweet Shoppe Blog.  Here's the photo:
Hmmm... ok, well....that's a puny photo, but you can definitely see that's what I used to create the first page - right?

It did take me quite a while to figure out what colors/papers to use. But I believe the ones I chose work great for the photos.  One thing I want to share is how I created my background paper.  The background, itself, is Real Red.... I added the Natural Composition Overlay in White, but brought the opacity down to 10%.  <---See, creating your own DSP (Designer Series Paper) is a breeze!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Supplies Used:
Background - Real Red
Embellishments(on page 2) - Hodgepodge Hardware (Jumbo Brad); Narrow Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon (Soft Suede)
Stamp Brush Sets - Natural Composition Overlays (Whisper White at 10% opacity); Watercolor Winter (snowflake and snowflake border - Whisper White)
Punch - Square (Soft Suede, Christmas Cocoa II DSP #1, Whisper White); Circle (Soft Suede)

Kauai Trip

Continuing work on our 2013 photobook with our trip we took to Kauai Hawaii in October.  I decided to complete all the pages of our trip before posting any of them, so that you would be able to see the grouping all at once.

We really enjoyed our time on the island of Kauai.... although, we LOVE every time we get to see the Hawaiian islands!!! We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott at Coconut Beach this time.  We did enjoy a luau too, at the Sheraton hotel, but do not have photos of that event. =)

Thanks for looking!

Happy Moments - MDSM82

I decided to play along with the MDS Monday Sketch Challenge this week (MDSM82).  Tara created this wonderful sketch, and asked us to use white/vanilla with a touch of one color.  You may view the challenge here:

I chose to Not Quite Navy as my touch of color.  The lovely patterned paper I used is from the Bella Bleu DSP set (Designer Series Paper #4).  I used the 'Rip Edges' tool on the photo with a Not Quite Navy mat.  The photo is of my parents enjoying the outdoors, sitting in their swing on their deck (taken in 2011). Hmmm.... I should probably add the date on my page - huh? LOL!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Supplies Used:
Background - Very Vanilla
Embellishments - Designer Rosettes (Very Vanilla); Basic Pearls; Timeless Taffeta Trimmings (bow - Not Quite Navy)
Stamp Brush Sets - Piece of Cake (circles - Not Quite Navy); Endless Birthday (word 'Happy' - Not Quite Navy); Greatest Moments (word 'Moments' - Not Quite Navy)
Punch - Square (filled w/ Bella Bleu DSP #4)

Wishing Endlessly

I impressed myself by only using one stamp set when creating this card, as I tend to use more than one.

I was inspired by my own card -- 'Love Unconditionally', where I used hearts and words.  I wanted to see if I could create a card for Christmas just using the stamps that I had in the set 'Endless Wishes'.  The set has so many Christmas words or phrases..... it was great to utilize them on my card.

Hope you like the results too!

Supplies Used:
Stamp Set - Endless Wishes
Paper - Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White
Ink - Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobber

I saw a card in the store that had such a beautiful saying on it, and I wanted to try and create a card using it with software, My Digital Studio by Stampin' Up!
In my opinion, it is simple in it's elegance.....what do you think?  I know my husband will LOVE it!

Thanks for taking a peek!

Thanksgiving Feast

I decided to design our Thanksgiving cards using My Digital Studio instead of the traditional way with stamps and paper. I was thrilled when the 'Feast of Thanks' digital kit came out, cuz I LOVE autumn with all it's beautiful colors....and this kit provided many different papers, stamps and embellishments! Yay!

I received my printed card today, and I LOVE how it turned out!

Supplies Used:
Background - Textured Cardstock (Early Espresso)

Embellishments - Feast of Thanks (leaves); Round Button (Early Espresso); Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack (bow - Summer Starfruit)

Framelit Fun

I wanted to play with the negative cut-out of the word 'Noel' in the Wonderful Wreath Framelit set. After running it through the Big Shot, I matted it with Whisper White.  I adhered the little pieces inside the letters before embossing the whole thing with the 'Northern Flurry'.

Of course, I couldn't just toss the positive cut-out of the word.  So, I chose to create another card with it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies Used:
Stamp Set - Wondrous Wreath
Paper - Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink - Night of Navy
Accessories - Northern Flurry TIEF, Wonderful Wreath Framelits, Big Shot, glue dots

Stylish Wreath

I received a new Stamp set - "Wondrous Wreath" and wanted to play with it.  I really love Christmas colors... and with the wreath I needed two greens, so I paired Pear Pizzazz with Mellow Moss.  I really like how the two go together.

The stamp set is a Photopolymer and a two-step stamp (I guess mine was a three-step stamping), so it was a bit time consuming to place stamp on acrylic block, ink, stamp, clean stamp, pull stamp off acrylic block, repeat for second leaves and then again for the berries.

I really do like that the stamp set has the framelits - "Wonderful Wreath" to match, so that each element can be intricately cut (no fussy cutting involved!).

Thanks for looking!

Supplies Used:
Stamp Set - Wondrous Wreath
Paper - Mellow Moss, Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler\
Ink - Cherry Cobbler, Mellow Moss, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories - Stylish Stripes, Wonderful Wreath Framelits, Big Shot, dimensionals, glue dots

We {heart} Hawaii! - MDSM81

I saw this cute sketch on MDS Monday and wanted to play with it.  There are so many people, places and things "I Love" that it was very hard to narrow it down to just one! LOL!  Maybe when I get caught up with my photobooks I can create another one dedicated to "Things I Love".  What a great concept!  Thanks for the inspiration MDS Monday!

You may view the challenge here (as well as all the pages created with this sketch here:

In creating my page, I chose our love of Hawaii!  We fell in love with the beauty of the islands on our honeymoon trip.  We try and go every year to explore different parts of each island, so every trip is different and memorable.  We go in October to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Purplelight

Our 2013 photobook is coming together nicely.  I'm working on October 2013 now, with my trip to Cleveland.  Back in June, we all brought awareness and support to those who have/or died from Pancreatic Cancer through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network walk.  Although, we couldn't all be together (as we lived in different states) -- we still walked together.  So, while I was there in October, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raised awareness throughout the country with 'PurpleLight'..... a night to remember by lighting glow stick of purple to show our support.  It was an emotional night with many speaking about their disease and how it's effected them and their loved ones.  My Mom was not able to attend, but she was with us in spirit!

Thanks for taking a look!

Supplies Used:
Background - Whisper White
Stamp Brush Sets - Ribbon of Hope (Concord Crush); Celeste Knight Watercolor Overlays (Non-SU, Concord Crush)

Mom Birthday

Another two-page spread complete in our 2013 photobook! YES!
I do have to admit that in creating these two pages.... it was very emotional for me (as my Mom passed away Feb 2014).  I miss her so very much!

I saw this sketch on the Splitcoaststampers website, and it intrigued me with all it's layers.  Now, I'm sure I didn't add as many layers as the sketch shows, but I didn't want my page elements to diminish the photos I wanted to showcase.
Here is the sketch I used:
The name on .jpeg file is: "InstaMeWeekly1 - template3".

I did create my own Designer Series Paper to fill in the square punches.  It's relatively easy to do with My Digital Studio, and so very helpful when trying to match colors.  The DSP papers that I created are the Modern Medley white arrows on Lost Lagoon paper and the Wild Wasabi Happy Birthday text on Whisper White paper. To create your own DSP papers: 1) open a new 12x12 page; 2) add your background color; 3) add the stamp [ie:Modern Medley arrows in white]; 4) save file as a .jpeg on your desktop; 5) add this .jpeg file to the My Digital Studio software as a background [my computer/ program files/ My Digital Studio/ components/ backgrounds/ Designer Series Paper].

Thanks for taking a look!

Supplies Used:
Background - Lost Lagoon
Stamp Brush Set - Decorative Overlays (Whisper White); Modern Medley (arrows - Whisper White)
Embellishments - Festive Blooms (Whisper White and Old Olive recolored Wild Wasabi)
Punch - Square (filled w/Wild Wasabi DSP, Lagoon Arrows DSP, Wasabi Birthday DSP)
Font - Franciscan (Whisper White); Engaged (on the DSP -Wild Wasabi)

Virginia trip

Continuing work on our 2013 photobook..... still with our trip to Richmond Virginia.  There's so much to see here! We went to where the "White House" of the Confederacy was, and took a guided tour by one of the descendants of Jefferson Davis.  We also went to the museum which housed many artifacts from the Civil War.  From there, we walked to the State Capitol of Virginia.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Supplies Used:
Background - Textured Cardstock (Not Quite Navy)
Punch - Square (filled w/Cherry Cobbler)
Stamp Brush Set - Modern Medley (quatrefoil - Whisper White at 30% opacity); Extreme Elements (stars - Whisper White)
Embellishments - Taffeta Ribbon (Whisper White)
Font - Freehand (Whisper White and Cherry Cobbler); Galant (Whisper White)

State Park - MDSM80

Stampin' Up! has partnered with Becky Higgins (creator of Project Life) to offer a complete line of scrapbooking items.  Even though pocket cards are becoming more and more popular -- since it makes scrapbooking easier..... I had yet to jump on this bandwagon.  Not sure what my aversion to it is. LOL!

When Stampin' Up provided a digital version -- I felt it was time to try my hand at it.

I purchased the 'Love Story' Project Life kit.  I was a bit surprised that they didn't provide photo layouts, so you could just drag and drop photos and embellishment cards into the layouts..... BUT, that didn't stop me.  I'm actually happy that they provided all embellishments (cards) in the form of stamp brush sets separately, so that I could utilize the stamps in however way I wanted (not just by pocket cards).

When I saw the MDS Monday Blog this week.... I was really looking forward to trying my hand at creating a digital version of pocket cards (Project Life).  The sketch you see above is a perfect example of what project life is all about.  You may view the MDS Monday Blog and the Challenge (MDSM80) here: http://mdsmonday.blogspot.com/2014/09/mdsm80-project-life-goes-digital.html

Creating the photo boxes was a bit time consuming for me.... making sure they fit the page with small borders and aligned perfectly, but I did it! =)  From there, everything was pretty much a snap to do. As I said above, I had purchased the 'Love Story' Project Life kit.... so I used that (and only that....which was a feat for me, as I tend to use stamps from different sources on most of my pages!).

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies Used:
Background - Textured Cardstock (Crumb Cake)
Photo Box - Square (filled w/Always Artichoke and Early Espresso)
Stamp Brush Set - Love Story (Crumb Cake)
Font - Cuckoo and June (Early Espresso)

UPDATE:  My Page was picked as the MDS Master of the week! Sweet!

Falls - DGSC120

I created another page for our 2015 Calendar.... with our trip to Snoqualmie Falls.
